Understanding Options for Grouping Content on Edovo

Edovo offers several tools to help organize, assign, and track learning content for incarcerated learners. Depending on your goals—whether you want to group learners, offer incentive-based programs, or build structured learning plans—there’s an option that fits your needs.

Below is an overview of the three key grouping tools: Learner Groups, Programs, and Learning Paths, along with guidance on when to use each.

Learner Groups

Learner Groups allow staff to group learners together in Edovo to simplify course assignment and activity tracking.

Use Learner Groups when:

  • You have more than a few learners who need the same assignments

  • You want an easy way to add or remove learners from assignments

  • You want to add or remove content for a specific group

  • You’d like a shortcut to access specific learner profiles

Note: Learner Groups are not shared between staff members. For best results, only one staff member should manage a group. Alternatively, you can use a shared email login, though only one person can be signed in at a time.

See this article for how to create and manage Learner Groups.

Programs

The Programs Tab allows you to connect Edovo courses with tangible outcomes like earned time credits, step-down opportunities, or behavioral incentives. These programs help publicize the benefits of engagement and clarify requirements for learners.

Use Programs when:

  • You want to define and promote the benefits of specific courses

  • You want to communicate program requirements and outcomes to all learners at your facility

The Programs tab is an effective way to motivate and reward engagement while creating transparency around what's possible through participation. See this article for how the Programs tab supports agency programs, and see this article for recommended coursework to include in outcome-based programs.

Note: The Programs Tab is only visible after Edovo has enabled it at your facility. Unlike Learner Groups and Learning Paths which are always visible, if you're interested in enabling the Program Tab, contact accounts@edovo.org.

Learning Paths

Learning Paths are curated sequences of courses, activities, and resources designed to guide learners through a structured educational journey toward a specific goal.

Use Learning Paths when:

  • You want to offer learners a step-by-step curriculum

  • You don’t need to actively monitor their progress through Insight

Note: Learning Paths are created and managed by Edovo. If you would like to create a new path or modify an existing one, please contact your Edovo representative.

See this article for how to navigate Learning Paths.
