Edovo’s Accessibility Standards

Ensuring an accessible and pleasant experience to all users, regardless of accessibility needs, is a key element of the Edovo Learner platform. Primarily deployed on Android-based tablets throughout the Corrections space, the Edovo Learn application makes use of native Android accessibility functions for Learners who need the assistance of accessible tools. Accessibility features and functions differ depending on the version of Android deployed devices at their facilities. Our current accessibility testing and measurements are compatible with all versions of Android back to version Android 6 (Marshmallow). Those who are interested in learning more about the accessibility features of Android based tablets should consult the Google Android Accessibility Help page for a comprehensive overview of each component.

On Partner deployed tablets, where Edovo is deployed as an education application, available accessibility functions may vary based on tablet model, version of Android available, and tablet vendor. Edovo recommends consulting with your tablet provider on specifics of accessibility features that can be made available at your facility.

Examples of Accessibility Functions on the Edovo Learn Platform:
  1. Talkback
    1. Navigable components of Edovo Learn accurately describe the name, role, and value of content items and actions within the application through TalkBack functions, utilizing eyes-free control of your device if necessary.
    2. This means that Learners hear exactly what a button or content card or any clickable component in the Edovo app is and does prior to clicking.

  2. Keyboard
    1. Focus indicator is active when a peripheral keyboard or device is configured to be used on a tablet. The focus indicator allows the learner to “focus” (highlight) on one element at a time as they navigate through the Learn application.
    2. Navigation control is supported and doesn’t require a learner to touch a device or interact with it directly to go through navigation or dismiss it once a learning module is open.
    3. This means if a Learner needs use of an input/output assistive device, they can easily navigate the system through simple clicks to navigate through their selectable options on screen.

  3. Switch
    1. The Learn Platform is compatible with device accessibility switch functions from the moment the platform loads, allowing Learners the ability to utilize external devices made available to them for proper focus order navigation.

  4. Closed Captions
    1. Video and audio content on Edovo has closed captioning in English and Spanish accessible to Learners.
    2. Any newly added video and audio content has the capability to quickly and easily automate the generation of closed captions for Learner usability.

  5. Color Correction & Contrast:
    1. The Learn platform is compatible with device adjustments of color to provide a seamless interaction with the learner as well as contrast increase or decrease.
    2. All core system and navigational components of the Learn application also conform to all standard accessibility color and contrast success criteria.

On Edovo deployed Tablets, users can enable the following accessibility options:

For instructions on how to use Edovo's accessibility tablets, please take a look at the attached resource.
  1. Talkback
    1. TalkBack gives you eyes-free control of your device by reciting all selected content items, actions, and navigable components of an application interface.
  1. Select-to-Speak
    1. Select-to-speak is similar to Talkback, but is an “On Demand” feature for the user. Select-to-speak can be accessed with just a push of a button whenever needed instead of being “constantly on”, as is the case with TalkBack.

  2. Switch Access/Universal Switch
    1. Switch Access lets you interact with your Android device using one or more switches instead of the touchscreen. Switch Access can be helpful if you can't interact directly with your device.
    2. A universal switch lets you designate certain touches or gestures to control specific actions on your tablet. Customized universal switch controls are typically difficult to implement in a Correctional environment, but may be considered in special cases.

  3. Magnification gestures
    1. Magnification gestures allow visually impaired users to zoom in and pan the whole screen, providing a more enhanced magnification window than the typical “pinch-to-zoom” function.

  4. Large Text
    1. As stated, large text is enlarged text size for visually impaired Learners.
    2. Edovo recommends 18pt font or above settings for Learners who require this feature set.

  5. Grayscale
    1. Grayscale sets the color palette to be black, white, and gray tones, assisting primarily colorblind Learners who benefit from a monochromatic color scheme.

  6. Color Adjustment
    1. Color adjust allows the colors on the screen to be adjusted if a user finds it difficult to read the screen as is. The settings allows a color scheme setup that adjusts to the colors the user can see.

  7. Direct Access
    1. Direct Access allows you to securely access accessibility settings, allowing for any tablet to cater to a user that has the accessibility needs without having to reconfigure the whole device.
