What is an item & how does pricing work?

A clear guide to how Edovo defines, counts, and prices each piece of content you upload

On Edovo, content comes in many shapes—courses, podcasts, meditations, newsletters—but everything you upload is counted as an “item.” This article breaks down exactly what qualifies as one item, how item-based pricing works, and how to plan your submissions to get the most value from your publishing tier.

Your cheat sheet for this article

  • An item is a single, publishable unit of content on Edovo—whether it’s a podcast episode, a 6-lesson course, or a 10-minute meditation.

  • Pricing is based on the number of items, not file size or lesson count.

  • One item = one publishing slot. No matter how big or small.

  • Additional hosting and maintenance fees apply annually based on your total number of items.

  • An item is a single content card. If it has its own title, description, and icon, it counts as 1 item—no matter what’s inside.

Understanding Edovo’s Pricing: How Publishing and Hosting Fees Work

At Edovo, we’re committed to making your content accessible to incarcerated learners across the country. To do that in a sustainable and transparent way, we have two types of fees: Content Publishing Fees and Hosting & Maintenance Fees. These fees help offset our costs and ensure that we can continue offering this educational content at no cost to the learners themselves.

1. Content Publishing Fee (One-Time)

The Content Publishing Fee is a one-time charge for each item you publish on the Edovo platform. This fee includes:
  • A content review to ensure appropriateness for a correctional audience

  • Uploading, formatting, and tagging your content for Edovo’s system

  • Publishing to all eligible correctional facilities

  • Quality assurance to ensure your content performs well for our learners

What counts as one "item"?

Each piece of content counts as one item, whether it’s:

  • A standalone course (that's 1 item)

  • A single MP4 sermon video (that's 1 item)

  • An MP3 audio podcast (that's 1 item)

  • PDF newsletter (that's 1 item)

We count each item you submit—regardless of format or size—as one individual item. That’s because every piece, whether it’s a course, video file, audio file, or PDF, goes through the same screening, review, and publishing process on our end.
Example:
If you submit 3 courses, 4 videos, 2 audio files, and 1 PDF, you’ll be charged a publishing fee based on the total of 10 items.
Bottom line? Submitting your content in batches can help you get more value for your publishing fee. By planning and uploading intentionally, you’ll make the most of your investment and maximize your impact.

2. Hosting & Maintenance Fee (Annual)

The Hosting & Maintenance Fee is a recurring annual cost that covers:

  • Ongoing hosting and secure distribution of your content

  • Access to Edovo’s Basic Analytics Dashboard

  • Ongoing maintenance and distribution of your content

How it works:

Your Hosting & Maintenance fee is based on the total number of items you've published. If you add more content later and it pushes you into a higher tier, you’ll pay the difference at that time.

Your annual renewal is reset to the month of your latest publishing activity.

Real-Life Example: Uploading 10 Items

Let’s say you want to publish 10 items—a mix of 3 videos (MP4), 2 audio recordings (MP3), 1 PDF workbook, and 4 short courses. Here’s how pricing would break down:

Step 1: One-Time Content Publishing Fee

  • You are submitting 10 items total

  • That puts you in the 3-10 item tier

  • Publishing Fee: $1,250 (one-time charge)

Step 2: Annual Hosting & Maintenance Fee

  • With 10 total items published, you fall in the 3-50 item tier

  • Annual Fee: $500

If you add more content later—say another 30 items a few months from now—you’ll pay

  1. new publishing fee of $2,500 for 30 new items.
  2. The difference in the Hosting fee. Your annual renewal would then reset based on the month of that second publishing event.

Summary

At Edovo, an item is any single piece of content you upload to the platform—whether it’s a standalone document, a course with 6 lessons, a ten-minute meditation clip, an ebook with 300 pages, or a 45-minute podcast episode.

TL;DR

Each item you publish on Edovo is an opportunity to educate, inspire, and impact someone’s life. And just like at a buffet, it’s not the size of the dish that matters—it’s the care you put into what’s served.
