Data is only useful if it helps you make decisions, and the Analytics tab in Edovo Insight is full of insights that can help you understand your population and make smarter programming choices. Here’s how to read the numbers, ask the right questions, and take practical action.
This article goes though some of the questions your Analytics dashboard can help answer.
How is digital programming impacting participation?
The Edovo Analytics dashboard is packed with metrics that tell the story of your digital programming. At the top, you'll find key numbers like items completed, courses completed, unique active learners, average hours per learner, and total learning hours, all essential for understanding how your learners are engaging.
In the example below, we've filtered from the period from 1/1/25 to 12/31/25. This gives you a snapshot of 2025 engagement perfect for celebrating activity with your internal teams and leadership and sharing in newsletters or social media.
But the real magic happens when you start comparing periods by using the filters at the top. Year-over-year, was engagement higher or lower in 2024? Month-over-month, are there seasonal trends or months where participation spikes or dips?
If engagement is down, take action! Consider posting a dorm flyer reminding learners that Edovo is available, or train case managers to assign courses directly through Insight to motivate participation.
If engagement is up, celebrate! Share the wins, highlight what's working, and think about strategies to keep the momentum going.
Another way to explore engagement is with the Total Hours All Learners and Total Hours Per Learner line graphs. For example, in 2025, you can see a peak on June 21, when learners collectively spent 142.13 hours on Edovo, averaging 1.597 hours per learner that day.
Peaks like this show when learners are most engaged, which can help you plan programming, staff reminders, or targeted content around high-activity periods. Conversely, dips can highlight when extra encouragement or outreach—like dorm flyers, facility-wide notifications, or assigning courses to learners—might help to keep learners active.
What do our learner enjoy the most, and where are the gaps?
The Courses Completed by Category section shows how learners are spending their time on Edovo and which types of content resonate most—or least. For example, in the facility highlighted below, learners engaged most with Jobs & Finance courses (29.8%), followed by Reentry & Community content (23.8%).
Understanding these preferences helps you tailor programming to what learners are already interested in, fill gaps where engagement is low, and even guide instructors to create new content that meets your facility’s unique needs.
If you want to get more specific, the Top 50 Courses Engaged In table shows the individual courses generating the most engagement at your facility.
For instance, I wanted to know: “What are the top courses engaged in so far this year, 2026?” By adjusting the filters at the top and scrolling to the Top 50 table, I could see that learners spent the most hours in Chemistry: Atoms First 2e (315 hours across 6 learners) and Precalculus (310 hours across 6 learners).
Switching the sort to top learner count paints a different picture: while Math - Algebra didn’t have the most hours, it had the largest number of learners—144 learners spent a total of 101 hours in the course.
And remember—the dashboard is flexible. You can filter by any date range to see trends daily, monthly, quarterly, or annually. Whether you’re tracking engagement for a single course, a category, or an entire year, the Courses Completed by Category and Top 50 Courses Engaged tables help you uncover what’s working and where you might want to invest more effort.
What are learners saying about courses?
The 4- and 5-star Course Review Feedback table is a goldmine for hearing directly from your population. it surfaces quotes from learners about what they enjoy and what's helping them succeed.
For example, you might see comments like this:
These quotes are more than just feel-good notes. They're evidence of impact. You can use them to:
- Celebrate success internally with your team and leadership
- Highlight programming impact in reports or presentations
- Share positive stories externally on social media to show the value of your facility's educational offerings
Tracking feedback over time can also show you which courses are consistently resonating, helping you decide what programming to build, continue, expand, or replicate.
What else can you learn?
Beyond the charts, graphs, and metrics shared above, the tables further down the Analytics dashboard offer a closer look at how Edovo is being used by both learners and staff. They help answer questions about participation, communication, and internal access.
A few more key tables to explore:
Learner Logins
This table shows when learners are logging into Edovo. It can help you identify patterns in platform usage, such as the times of day or days of the week when learners are most active.
Staff Messages
This table shows the messages staff members are sending to learners through Insight. It includes the time the message was sent, who sent it, the learner ID, the learner's name, the facility name, and the message itself.
This gives you visibility into how your team is communicating with learners. Are messages going out regularly? Are they encouraging participation in programming? Reviewing these messages can help you refine your communication strategy and ensure learners are being encouraged to explore educational content.
Insight Users
This table lists the facility staff members who have access to Edovo Insight. You'll see the email associated with each account, the user's permission level, whether their access is enabled, pending, or disabled, and the date their account was created.
This gives administrators the ability to manage access to insight and ensure the right staff members have the tools they need to manage learners and educational content. It's also helpful for onboarding new staff or reviewing permissions to make sure account are current.
Productive Time Per Learner
This table surfaces the learners in your facility who are spending the most time on Edovo.
Some facilities use this data to recognize or incentivize their most engaged learners. Highlight top learner, through small incentives, recognition, or program privileges, can motivate others to participate and create a culture of learning throughout the facility.
Turning Insights Into Impact
The Analytics dashboard in Edovo Insight isn’t just about tracking activity. It’s about understanding what’s happening inside your facility’s digital learning environment and using that information to improve programming.
By exploring these metrics and tables, you can:
- Identify trends in learner engagement
- Understand what topics and courses resonate most
- Encourage participation through targeted messaging
- Recognize and reward learners who are investing time in their education
- Provide leadership with clear data that demonstrates the value of digital programming
Most importantly, analytics help you move from guessing to knowing. Instead of wondering whether learners are engaging or what content is working, you have real data that tells the story.
When used regularly, the Analytics dashboard becomes more than a reporting tool—it becomes a guide for strengthening educational opportunities and supporting the success of your learners.
