How to Review a Learner's Content Engagement in Insight

Reviewing a Learner's engagement with their content

You can review a learner's engagement with content on the “Course Engagement” and “Other Engagement” screens. To navigate to these screens, go to All Learners, select the learner whose engagement you want to review, and then click on the Coursework option. This will bring you to the Course engagement screen. In the Course engagement screen, you can see a table containing high level information about the courses a learner has worked on. This information includes:

  • Content Title - the title of the course

  • Status - whether the course is in progress or has been completed with a “Passed” or “Needs improvement” score. For in progress courses, you will see a status bar indicating how far the Learner has progressed through the course. Status bars are color coded to indicate whether the Learner is on track to pass (green) or if they may need to retake some of the lessons they’ve completed thus far (orange). Learn more about how course scores are calculated here.

  • Time Spent - the total time a learner has spent on the course (inclusive of retakes).

In addition:
  • You can expand each row to see how well the Learner has met each of the pass requirements for the course. To do so, click the down arrow icon at the end of each row.
    • When you expand a row, you also see an Option to “View Full Syllabus.” Selecting this option will bring you to the directory page for this course.
  • You can also choose to include additional data columns for more detailed information about the Learner’s engagement.
    • Additional columns include:
      • Started - the date the Learner started the course
      • Completed - the date the Learner completed the course
      • Last Activity - how long ago the Learner last worked on the course
      • Quiz Score - the Learner’s quiz score, this is also visible when you expand the row for a given course.
      • Open Response score - the Learner’s open response score, this is also visible when you expand the row for a given course.
    • To add columns in the table:
      • Click the Columns button to choose which columns to display.
      • Choose which columns to show or hide by toggling column visibility.
  • You can export information presented on this table to a CSV or PDF file. Only visible columns will be included in the export.

Because learning resources are purely supplemental and only courses track progress and score completion, engagement in resources can be viewed on the “Other engagement” screen. You can see a link to this screen on the left side of your screen when viewing Course engagement.

Analyze course engagement with sorting and filtering

In addition to being able to see information about content engagement, you can also analyze it. By default, the content a learner has most recently worked on will appear at the top of the table because the table is sorted by descending Last Activity. You can change how the information is sorted by clicking the column header for any visible column.

You can also filter data to isolate content that meet certain criteria. For example, if you want to see only completed courses where a learner earned a passing score, you can use the status filter to drill down to courses completed with status of “Complete - Passed.” To do so:
  • Click the “Filters” button to see filter options
  • Update the “Columns” selection in filter options to “Status”
  • Set the desired “Value(s) selection to “Complete - Passed”
  • You can add as many filters as you would like to isolate courses

Going further with the 'More' button

Sometimes, you'll need to see more information than what's contained in the coursework table. The More button will give you several options for each course:
  • Print Certificate - print a certificate for any course with a Completed status (Remember, certificates are only provided for completed Courses). If necessary, you can also download certificates in bulk. See [Accessing and Printing Certificates and Transcripts] for more information.

  • View Answers - navigate to the progress screen where you can see a learner's answers for each lesson in the course

  • View Enrollments - compare progress for all learners who have taken this course

  • Send Feedback - send the learner a message of support, feedback, or encouragement about this course
