Edovo’s Resume Builder is a powerful tool designed to help learners create a professional resume directly within the platform. Here’s everything you need to know about this resource and how it works.
Key features
- Location in Edovo Learn: The Resume Builder is available under the “My Edovo” section in Edovo Learn, provided the tool is enabled at the facility.
- User-Friendly Design: The Resume Builder is intuitive and guides learners through each step. A how-to guide is also available in Edovo Learn’s Content Library to help learners get familiar with its features.
- Security Considerations: When implementing the Resume Builder at your facility, there are two security settings to choose from. We will configure your facility with your preferred default setting:
- Disable Editing: With this setting, learners cannot preview or edit their resumes after signing out of Edovo unless facility staff grant editing permissions through Edovo Insight. This option provides greater control in environments where security is a priority.
- Enable Editing: This setting allows learners to revisit, preview, and edit their resumes without restrictions. It's well-suited for facilities with SOO enabled, where learners have individual tablets, and message-passing is not a significant concern.
- Learner Preparation Tip: Encourage learners to draft their resume sections on paper before getting started. This is especially helpful for facilities using the Disable Editing security setting, where learners can work on their resume continuously during their first session but won’t be able to make changes after logging out unless staff grants permission.
How to access Resume Builder
To access the Resume Builder, learners can:
Navigate to “My Edovo” from the main dashboard.
If enabled by the facility, the Resume Builder will appear at the top of their “My Edovo” screen.
Upon first use, learners will see an introductory message explaining security restrictions (if you have editing disabled) and offering best practices for resume creation.
How Resume Builder works
The tool walks learners through four key sections:
Personal Information
Work Experience
Education
Skills
Learners simply fill in the fields, and their input is automatically formatted into a professional resume. They can preview their progress using the "Preview" button and return to make edits as they work.
What does the finished resume look like?
The final product is a clean, applicant-tracking-system-friendly resume. This standardized format ensures compatibility with modern hiring practices.
FAQs
Can learners create more than one resume?
Learners can only build one resume at a time. Changes are saved automatically. If a learner logs out, they’ll need staff permission to edit their existing resume or can start over, which will overwrite their current resume.
How can facility administrators enable editing?
Facility staff can unlock a learner’s resume for editing via Edovo Insight:
Log into Edovo Insight.
Select “Learners” from the home page.
Locate the learner’s profile, click “View Resume,” and toggle “Allow Editing” on or off.
Can administrators edit a learner’s resume?
Yes, administrators can log into Edovo Learn as the learner to edit their resume if editing has been enabled for the Learner:
Go to Edovo Learne at go.edovo.com.
Use your credentials, but select the “LEARNER” login option.
Enter the learner’s ID which can be found in the learner's profile in Edovo Insight and select the appropriate facility to log in as the learner.
Edovo’s Resume Builder is tailored specifically for the unique needs of incarcerated individuals:
- Highlights Strengths Early: The formatted resume leads with a professional summary section, allowing learners to showcase their qualifications upfront.
- Flexible Education Options: Learners can include nontraditional education like self-study, certificates, or other achievements alongside traditional degrees.
- Standardized and Adaptive Format: The single resume template is clean, easy to read, and applicant-tracking-system compatible, ensuring employers can process it efficiently. The template also reformats itself if a learner leaves sections blank, such as experience or education, ensuring the resume still looks professional.
- Accommodates Limited Personal Information: The "personal information" section is designed to be flexible, accommodating learners who may only have an email address or phone number.
- Post-Release Access: Learners can continue to access and edit their resumes post-release through Edovo Go, supporting their ongoing reentry journey.
