Learner Achievements

Learner Achievements

Achievements is a new gamification feature available to Edovo Learners to encourage positive learning engagement with Edovo Learners:

With this functionality, Learners Can:
  1. View their earned and in-progress badges
  2. Earn badges for Completed Lessons and Courses
  3. Earn badges for Points
  4. Earn badges for Correct Quiz Answers
View their earned and in-progress badges within their My Edovo Profile:
Learners will be able to view badges they’ve previously earned as well as badges they are actively working towards within the Achievements section.

The Earned section will show which levels of a given badge have been earned, for each type of badge that we offer.

The In Progress section will show how close a learner is to achieving their next badge, for example, they’ve completed 7 out of the 10 lessons needed to earn their 10 Lessons badge.

Earn badges for Completed Courses and Lessons
Learners will earn a badge after completing a certain number of courses or lessons. There is an infinite number of increments a learner can earn a badge (for example, a learner can earn a badge for completing 5 lessons and for completing 350 lessons). The increments vary depending on the type of badge.

Earn badges for Points
Earning badges for points will help learners see how many total lifetime points they’ve earned over the course of using Edovo, whether or not points have since been spent (for learners who have the ability to spend points). Like our other badges, there is an infinite number of badges a learner can earn for points, across various increments.

Earn badges for Correct Quiz Questions

While we don't currently have an easy way to grade all types of quiz questions, such as short answer questions, we can easily calculate a Learner's score based on their answers to multiple-choice questions. Learners will now be able to receive badges for answering a certain number of multiple-choice questions correctly, e.g. 5, 10, 20, 30 and so on. Learners will only receive credit if they answer the questions correctly on their first attempt.

Key Functionality
The progress bar will start from the most recently earned badge:
When a learner moves on to the next level of a given badge, the progress bar will reset to zero, while still including the number achieved from the previous badge. For example, if I’m working on completing 20 lessons and I just received a 10 lesson completion badge, the progress bar should still reset to zero, but show my progress from 10 to 20 lessons. If the progress bar doesn’t reset, then as learners reach high levels of badges, it will always look like they are 85-90% complete with a given level, even if they just started.

Limit the number of earned badges displayed to four:
As learners start to reach higher levels of a given badge, they can view previously earned badges under the “Earned” tab within Achievements. In order to prevent crowding/infinite scrolling within this view, learners will be able to see the past four levels of a given badge that they have earned. As such, the focus here should be on earning the next level of a given badge, which is always visible under the “In Progress” tab.
